Stephen Kavanagh

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Stephen Kavanagh has been composing for the past twelve years. Having finished a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Music in Dundalk Institute of Technology, he then entered Trinity College Dublin in 2012, where he obtained an M.Phil in Music Composition under the tutelage of Evangelia Rigaki and Matthew Barnson. He has recently finished a Masters at the University of Edinburgh on the topic of Blurring Between Sound Design and The Original Score Within Film. 

During this time Stephen has worked with numerous musicians such as, cellist Kate Ellis, electronic orchestra; DubLork, vocal ensemble Tonnta and the Fidelio Trio, to name but a few.  In addition to this his pieces have been performed all across Europe, including The National Concert Hall, Dublin and Auidmax Concert Hall in Hamburg. 

Having created original music and sound design for numerous short films and independent art films, Stephen most notably has composed music for the United Nations as part of their campaign for World Migratory Bird Day 2014, and again, in 2015 for their campaign ‘Energy-make it Bird Friendly’.  The summer of 2015 also saw the release of the Irish feature film Monged; which made its debut at the Galway Film Fleadh, and featured an original soundtrack scored by Stephen. It subsequently received high praise at the Cork, Kerry and Chicago Film Festivals. 

Most recently Stephen has finished another Irish Film titled “Beach Baby” which is hoping to be premiered in the summer of 2020
