Avril Kneafsey is a flautist and composer from Swinford, Co Mayo. She graduated with a BA in Music and Law from the University of Galway in 2023 and is currently studying an MA in Composition and Creative Music Practice, in the Irish World Academy in Limerick under the direction of Dr Eoin Callery. Her strengths lie in both traditional Irish music and classical music, playing the flute in both genres.
Her love for composition flourished during her undergraduate degree, during which she studied under the direction of Dr Ramin Haghjoo and Dr Amanda Feery. She has composed for a number of ensembles ranging from a string quartet which was recorded by Con Tempo string quartet, to a full orchestra. Her style of composition ranges from traditional Irish music to classical music to music concrete.
