A Foundation Scholar of Music at Trinity College Dublin, Stephen O’Brien is a young composer and saxophonist. Having studied music for twelve years, he has performed for the President of Ireland, has won the Junior Saxophone Feis Ceoil Competition, and has worked with ensembles such as the DIT Wind Ensemble, the NODE Ensemble (of which he is a Committee Member) and the “Quintessential Sax” saxophone quartet. He had his compositional début in Dublin’s prestigious Masonic Lodge with the NODE ensemble in March 2012; and his “Few Polyrhythms? Be Grand.” was premiered at the Kodály Society of Ireland Summer School in July 2012 – to which he was awarded a scholarship.
