We are delighted to present the second concert of our For the Voice series with vocalists Elizabeth Hilliard and Melissa Murphy.
The concert will feature six new works for voice and electronics written by ICC composers/members Éna Brennan, Aran O’Grady, Rachael Lavelle, Darragh Kelly, Lindsey Vincent, and Paul Scully.
Elizabeth is a soprano from Dublin. She is passionate for performing music by living composers and brings her keen musical skills to a wide range of repertoire. She formed the music / text company Béal with David Bremner in 2010: In 2016 she conducted ensembÉal in a 2-day festival,Inappropriate Moments, featuring the vocal ensemble music of Jennifer Walshe. She released a critically-acclaimed CD Sea to the West in 2016, featuring works by Linda Buckley, Gráinne Mulvey, David Bremner and Christopher Fox. In 2018, The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon awarded her a bursary to study improvisation with Jennifer Walshe and Karen Power, and conducting with Gregory Rose.
The For the Voice series also sees ICC’s first performer mentorship scheme in which emerging performers are paired with experienced performers who mentor them on how best to approach, learn and perform new music. Each mentee has two pieces written for them, one duet and one solo, which they then perform in the concert. Elizabeth’s mentee for this concert is Dublin-based soprano Melissa Murphy.
Melissa is a graduate of DIT and has recently performed as Galatea, Donna Anna, and Nysa. She regularly performs in the National Concert Hall with Lyric Opera and has been a prize winner in the ESB Feis Ceoil. She has also enjoyed working both in choirs and conducting them throughout her degree. She is thrilled to be working with the composers and to be performing these new works.
