Kilian O’Kelly was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium. In 2010, he started the Bachelor of music course in NUI Maynooth. Whilst there he was taught by Martin O’Leary and received performances by the Maynooth University Guitar Ensemble for two pieces.
In 2013, after completing his degree with double honours in music composition, he enrolled to be part of the M Phil course in Trinity College Dublin, under the tutelage of Donnacha Dennehy and Evangelia Rigaki. Kilian performed electric guitar loops alongside the ‘Lucilin Ensemble’ for his piece ‘Channel 59’.
In March 2015, he started a PhD in Music Composition at Maynooth University under the tutelage of Ryan Molloy.
He also took part in the 'Irish Composers Summer School' in 2015, where he worked alongside the 'Clarion Horn Trio'. Kilian lists the spectral music of Tenney, the minimal music of Reich and the disintegration loops of William Basinski as influences.
Kilian became the Press & Media Officer for the ICC in September 2015.
