Amy Rooney

// bio

Amy Rooney is a composer and violinist from Co. Down. Her compositions strike a balance between structure and freedom; while the music is traditionally notated, it retains a degree of flexibility with regard to duration and pitch order. Such an approach generates minute deviations from one performance to the next, allowing the music to constantly germinate.

Amy’s music has been played by various soloists and ensembles including the JACK Quartet, the RTÉ Con Tempo Quartet, the Delmege Quartet, Concorde, Mary Dullea, Robert Plane and Joanne Quigley among others.

Recent awards include Concorde’s Up Close Composer in 2013 and the West Cork Chamber Music Festival Composition Competition in 2014 and 2015.
